Desert Storm

The dust strom which recently hit Sydney has made headlines across the world. It was something I had never experienced before.  I was woken by a red glow which filled the bedroom. Thinking there was a fire I bounded out of bed and over to the window. All I could see was an orange/red haze - the houses over the road were not visible. I went outside and saw that the flowers and the leaves on the trees were all covered in centimetres of dust, as were the cars parked on the street, roofs, pathways, decks and verandahs. The bottom of our pool was a shade of burnt orange. People were warned to stay inside, especially those with asthma and parents were given the choice of whether to send children to school or not. Transport was disrupted. By mid-afternoon the air was clearer as the storm headed for Queensland, but the smell of dust in the air remains. Now the clean-up begins. Good times ahead for car washes and house washing businesses - if it rains it will rain mud!

A Bed in Arles, Provence

Hello Again!

Have just received the funniest review ever for Good Night and God Bless. It was written for an online travel website www.wanderingeducators.com by a most amusing man, Winfred Peppinck who apart from writing books reviews is in the esteemed employ of His Highness Shaikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Lhalifa, the king of Bahrain. The review is posted on the Good Night and God Bless website and is bound to have you chuckling.

And speaking about ‘being in the employ’ I have just been given a new job - that of European Accommodation Editor for Wandering Educators, a site for sharing travel experiences and discovering new places. I have always wanted to tell the world about the Hotel du Forum in Arles in Provence, so I did. It is only a three star hotel but it seems to capture the essence of this beautiful part of the world. Its position on a colourful, umbrella filled square choc-a-bloc with street cafes and opposite the Cafe du Terrace, which artist Van Gogh famously painted, helps too. You can check it out at

Happy Travelling!
